Higher Taxes for Potomac Yard Redevelopment
Washington Post commentary on Potomac Yard Redevelopment. It looks like higher taxes and potentially more traffic in the future for some of us, as well as the potential destruction of a shopping center that is very successful (and convenient). Is this really progress?

Potomac Yard Redevelopment Approved
So, the city of Alexandria approved the Potomac Yard Redevelopment according to the Washington Post. On the surface, this appears to be a good news story. Although I like the grassy area along the railroad tracks, the additional metro station will be a boon to Alexandria residents and mixed-use area should attract businesses closer to DC. That said, the devil will be in the details. For instance, the entire project appears contingent on the completion - which requires funding - of the Metro stop. Without that, the redevelopment could go in a different direction. The Metro stop will require multiple assessments and fundraising.

DRD Begins
June 15th, 2010 - It's a warm, rainy afternoon in Alexandria, VA. I'm writing from the heart of Del Ray and beginning my blog. The intent of this is to post daily -- daily photos, daily musings, daily aggregation of news (locally focused), and/or other daily items from Northern Virginia / DC. We'll see how it goes, right?
